Ken Griffey Jr. Announces Retirement

It seems as if good news is always followed by bad news. After hearing that Michael Jordan will be returning to the game (virtually), shocking news has revealed that another one of our sport icons, Ken Griffey Jr., has announced his retirement from the game of baseball.

In detail, Seattle Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu recently stated that the Mariner’s all-time leader in almost every offensive category is leaving the game. It is safe to say many baseball fans and everybody involved with the Seattle Mariners club will undoubtedly missed the baseball icon.

“Ken is both the finest ballplayer I have ever known and one of the finest people I have ever known,” said Chuck Armstrong, President of the Seattle Mariners. “I consider myself unbelievably fortunate to have had the opportunity to watch a first-ballot Hall of Famers’ career unfold in front of me, and in front of the great fans in Seattle.”

The 40-year-old, perennial All-Star is among the all-time leaders in many statistical categories in the history of the game including home runs (5th/630), multi-homer games (T7th/55), extra base hits (T6th/1,192), total bases (12th/5,271), runs scored (31st/1,662), doubles (36th/524), intentional walks (4th/246) and hits (46th/2,781).

In regards to the sneaker community, Ken Griffey Jr.’s kicks have nonetheless been a staple in many closets around the world. Sneakers such as the Nike Air Griffey Max 1, the Nike Air Max Griffey 8 and the Nike Air Griffey Max III have literally been icons of their own within the industry.
